My First Drawing Robot
One move project moved from TO-DO list to DONE list. The project looks simple but making it was difficult.
Background
Good friends at Maker’s Asylum had a polargraph, which needed some tuning, its an awesome project, and having a laser cutter at hand, I just had to build a drawing robot for my self. So now we have two of these bots.
Parts for the Robot
- Power supply
- control board
- stepper drives
- motors
- servo
- motor mounts
- gondola
- bearing
Had most of the stuff laying around, laser cut some parts and things came together.
Drawing Robot
The drawing bot has two steppers motors on two corners and counterweights so a motor with less torque can be used. There are many firmwares that can do this. The polargraph was byfar the most compelet project with really nice documentation and nice community of users. The gondola carries the pen/marker and a servo that lifts it up whenever necessary.
It was mostly a smooth build and of course small bumps along the road. I tried raster drawing and vector drawing both works well and amazing to look at.

Will be playing with it a awful lot and keep the gallery updating.
