Printing with a 1 mm Nozzle
I wanted to try printing with a 1 mm nozzle, so I needed something fairly simple to test it with. I ended up going with this rectangular trash can.
Rectangular Trash Can – Vase Mode on Printables
I printed it in vase mode, and I was actually quite surprised by how sturdy it turned out. With a 1 mm nozzle, the wall is obviously much thicker, and even though it is technically just a single-wall vase-mode print, it feels pretty solid.
The 1 mm Nozzle
For this experiment, I bought a third-party nozzle from an AliExpress shop. It was one of those nozzles that can be fitted to the older version of the nozzle assembly.

The main reason I went with this type was that large nozzles are much easier to find in this format. There are 1 mm, 1.2 mm, and other sizes available, along with different materials, so it seemed like a good option if I wanted to experiment with different nozzle sizes.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go completely as planned.
The nozzle started leaking.
Luckily, I was printing in vase mode, so the leak didn’t cause any major problems. There were some drips around the nozzle, but they were easy enough to remove from the print afterwards.
I’m actually pretty happy that, despite the leak, the nozzle was still able to finish the entire print. I was expecting the leak to cause more problems, but the print came out surprisingly well.
And Now It’s Stuck
The more annoying part is that the nozzle is now stuck with the 1 mm nozzle installed.
It can be removed, so it’s not completely stuck forever, but for now I’m going to leave it there. I still have some PLA left, so I might as well put the 1 mm nozzle to use for another experiment.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with what the 1 mm nozzle can do. The print was fast, and the resulting wall was surprisingly sturdy.
The cheap third-party nozzle, on the other hand… not so impressed.
Still, that’s part of the fun of trying these things. Sometimes the experiment works, sometimes you end up with a nozzle you didn’t plan on keeping installed.
