Use this one simple tip to make your PCB design better.
When you place LEDs on the board, add them to the edge of the PCB.
It’s even better if you place an edge lit LED. In one of my designs I placed the LEDs in the middle of the board. The PCB had tall components on the board, and LEDs were visible when you looked at the right angle. If I didn’t change the position, I’d have to use light pipes, increasing the cost. With edge LEDs, you can drill holes on the side of the enclosure and get access to them. There are special edge LEDs available in SMD and through hole. The through hole version even has LEDs stacked on top of each other, saving real estate on the board.
